FAQs

Are you a "real" Prada?

Actually, Yes! It turns out that Miuccia Prada is my 4th Cousin. My dad’s great grandfather and her great grandfather were brothers. They lived in Asturias, Spain and left in 1895 for various parts of the world. Miuccia’s people settled in Milan, and mine ended up in Trinidad, West Indies by way of Venezuela. Interestingly enough, there is a very high percentage of artists and woodworkers in my family. Art is in our genes!

How did you develop the Art Love Archetypes?

I developed them through the work of Myers-Briggs, Carl Jung and Helen Fischer. The notion of the 7 Purposes of Art was presented by Alain de Botton and John Armstrong in their wonderful book, Art as Therapy. Through years of personal observation and real-life experience, I’ve found that different people have very different psychological needs when it comes to art. I wanted to give people a very practical, easy way to figure out what their specific needs were, what they were most likely to respond to, and why.  So I decided to apply this idea of Archetypes to the 7 Purposes, and voila!

Who are some of your favourite artists? Whose work influences you most?

If Cy Twombly, Darren Waterston and Peter Doig had a baby, it would be me! Emily Carr, Georgia O’Keeffe and Frida Kahlo are my soul sisters – I admire their fierce, brave spirits as well as the beautiful, powerful art they left behind.

I've seen a painting on your site that I want to buy. How do I purchase art from you?

I’m so glad you asked! While I’m able to offer prints and smaller works on paper through the shop, shipping of original art can be a little more complex and varies according to several factors. (For example, if the item is framed or unframed, or whether it can be shipped in a box or needs to be crated.) When you see a painting you’re interested in, please send me a message here and I will arrange delivery with you according to your needs. I don’t mark up shipping prices so you will always be billed at cost.

Do you do commissions?

Absolutely! I love working with clients to come up with the perfect piece for them or as a one-of-a-kind gift. (Click to listen to one of the best commission stories ever!) You can book a free 20 minute consultation call to see if I can help you by contacting me here.

Do you have a payment plan?

Yes, I do! On items that are $800 and over, you can take up to 3 months to pay. The artwork will be delivered to you upon receipt of the final payment.

What if I get a painting home and it doesn't work in my space?

If you’re concerned about this and you’re local, you can preview the artwork in your space “on approval” before you finalize the purchase. To make arrangements, leave me a message here. If you’re not in Toronto, I can help you visualize what the piece will look like in your space if you send me a picture. Ah, the magic of PhotoShop! Just email nadine@thepradagallery.com and we’ll take it from there.

Do you do consultations?

Yes. A one-hour Skype consultation is available for $125. We will uncover your specific needs around art based on your Art Love Archetype, your budget and your lifestyle.

Read what Diane had to say about her recent consutation:

“I felt confused and dissatisfied with the art I was selecting for my home. I felt I needed a better understanding about what attracts me to a painting.

I was in the middle of redecorating and I didn’t want to buy the same old decorative prints from a department store. I wanted something different this time. Something with meaning and inspiration. I was intimidated to go into galleries because I felt that you had to know about “ART”. I was a bit frustrated at that because of my lack of confidence. I really wanted to learn about art and why I am drawn to certain things. So I guess I was looking to deepen a better understanding of me!

During my consultation session with Nadine, I felt relaxed, at ease, very informed and interested.

Afterwards, I felt inspired and motivated. I had such a great experience! I couldn’t stop thinking about it. The information we uncovered made so much sense and I know it’s going to help me create a home and workplace that will inspire my creativity and my overall life. I feel more confident in choosing artwork from a place of self awareness now and I’m not second guessing myself. I’m looking at artwork so differently now!”

Are you available for parties?

Yes, if you pay me! In all seriousness, it gives me great pleasure to bring art alive for groups of people. Drop me a note here and we can curate a wonderful experience for you and your guests.

How about interviews?

Please get in touch with nadine@thepradagallery.com – I’d love to get my message out into the wider world and help people access deeper experiences of art in their daily lives. You can also use the contact form here.

Do you teach classes?

Yes, I do real-life and online workshops that help people find creative flow and connect to their inner artist, even if they’ve never held a paintbrush before. I’m also working on an e-course to help you go deeper into experiencing art in ways that will change your life. It’ll be like going from a flat, 2-D world to 3D technicolour. If you’d like more information, please send me a message here.

What's involved in an Art Crawl?

I take small groups out for an afternoon of gallery hopping. We meet for coffee, discuss how the day will unfold, and introduce you to your Art Love Archetype. We go over art viewing exercises that will take away the intimidation factor and make your experience an art adventure instead. After the first few galleries, we stop for a glass of wine and a group chat before heading back out for round 2. Sounds like fun, right? It really is! Message me here to find out more. If you have your own group, I can curate a special afternoon just for you.
